Family Photography Should Be Fun — Not Stiff and formal
Family photos don’t have to look formal or forced. At Fisher Photography, I want you to feel relaxed and genuinely enjoy the experience. When everyone feels comfortable, the best smiles and expressions happen naturally.
Choosing the Right Location
Whether you love the beach, a favourite park, or the comfort of your own home, I’ll help you find the perfect spot. Perth has so many beautiful outdoor locations, and I can suggest places that suit your family’s style and energy. If home feels more “you,” we can work there too — it often helps children (and pets) feel at ease.
The Best Time for Photos
Photographers often talk about the “golden hour” — that soft, warm light just before sunset. It’s a wonderful time to shoot, but it doesn’t work for every family. If you have little ones who get hungry or tired late in the day, we’ll find a time that fits your routine. A well-fed child (and parent!) always makes for better photos.
Preparing Your Home
If your session is at home, there’s no need for perfection. Just a quick tidy-up to remove clutter or distractions is enough. I’m experienced in working with all kinds of spaces and can use creative angles and lighting to make your home look its best. Minor adjustments can always be made in editing to keep your portraits clean and polished.
What to Bring
Personal touches make your session feel authentic. Bring a few meaningful items — a family blanket, a favourite toy, or something that reflects your children’s personalities. These small details can help keep kids engaged and relaxed, while adding charm and character to your photos.
What to Wear
The best rule is simple: wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable. Avoid busy patterns or large logos that can distract from your faces. Classic styles and neutral tones photograph beautifully, but a pop of colour or a favourite accessory can help express your personality.
What to Expect on the Day
My sessions are relaxed and easy-going. I’ll guide you with gentle direction and natural posing so you never feel awkward. Most family sessions last up to two hours, depending on the location and the number of people involved. You can expect plenty of laughs, movement, and real moments — nothing too posed.
After the Session
A few days after your shoot, I’ll share a carefully curated selection of your best images. You can choose your favourites for framing or digital delivery. Framed portraits arrive ready to hang, while digital files make it easy to print your own or share online with family and friends.
